I. CSA Membership and Risk

This season, you will take a journey with our family as we work to produce healthy, delicious food from the soil. Being a CSA member means that you share in all the risk that is inherent in farming. Inevitably, it will be a banner year for certain crops and a terrible year for others. The delicate dance between all the unknowns, all the uncontrollables, and the vegetables themselves will be reflected in your box throughout the season. Through diversity and good planning, it is our aim that your box will be full of beautiful vegetables each week, despite what nature may throw our way.

II. Member Responsibilities

As the farmers, it is our responsibility to grow, pack, and deliver food to you with open communication. Members have responsibilities too. To make sure everyone gets their share each week, we ask that you follow the simple, yet critical directions we offer.

top
All CSA Members are Expected to:
1. Read the member handbook in its entirety.

2. Know where and when to pick-up your CSA share.
Make sure anyone picking up your box on your behalf knows what to do as well. The farm will not issue credit or refunds for unclaimed or forgotten boxes.

3. Take home your produce in your own bag or box.
CSA boxes must stay on site.

4. Read communications from the farm.

5. Please understand that we can’t control the weather.
The quantity and quality of the produce you receive may be more or less than expected.

III. Egg Share Instructions

The quantity of eggs you ordered will be listed next to your name on the check sheet. (The check sheet for eggs is the SAME as the check sheet for CSA boxes.)

All eggs will be in a cooler, placed under or near the table where the check sheet is located. Simply take the number of dozens ordered, as indicated on the check sheet.

If you are a REG veggie share member and you ordered an EO egg share, your eggs will be delivered on the weeks where EO veggie shares are delivered to your site. See next section to determine what EO group your site is.

VI. Pick-Up Instructions

1. Check-Sheets: Each week, please check-off your name on the check sheet to signify that you’ve received your box. This is extremely important in helping us help you! If you are splitting a share, please remember that you may be listed under the other household’s name.

2. Take Correct Share Type: We pack our produce into reusable plastic boxes with lids. At the site, simply take a box from the appropriate stack, either a regular or everyother box. Regular shares have black lids. Everyother shares have white lids.

3. Unpack Your Share into Your Own Bag: The plastic boxes that the produce will be in CANNOT leave the drop site. These boxes are expensive and we have a limited number. Please bring your own bag or box to take your food home in.

4. Swap Box: If you receive an item you won’t eat, you can leave it in the swap box. Feel free to take items from the swap box you know you can use.

5. Unclaimed Boxes: Boxes unclaimed by specified pick-up times will be donated. No credits or refunds will be issued for forgotten boxes.

VII. Options If I Can’t Pick Up My Box

The farm does not issue credits or refunds for boxes you forget to pick up or neglect to make special arrangements for.

If you can’t pick up your share, there are additional options available to you. All special arrangements need to be set up by SUNDAY evening prior to pick up. We are unable to accommodate later requests, because we need firm harvest numbers for the start of the week.

We ask that you set up the arrangement yourself by going here: http://crossroadscommunityfarm.csasignup.com/members/scheduleactions  Each member is allotted 2 special arrangements, or ‘vacation holds’.  If you don’t feel comfortable setting it up yourself, you can also email us the details of your change request and we will set it up for you.

Options:

#1:  You can have a friend or colleague pick it up for you. The farm does not need to be notified of this arrangement so long as you explain how pick-up works – REG vs EO and lid color, bringing own bag, check sheet, etc.  You don’t want your friend or colleague to take someone elses’ box by mistake or otherwise create confusion for others at your site.

#2: You can arrange to donate your box to the Good Shepherd food pantry.

#3:  REGS – You can ask us to hold your box at our farm, at 4144 County Road J in Cross Plains for you to pick up later in the week/weekend by temporarily changing your pickup site to the farm OR you can arrange to receive a make up box to your site on a different week, giving you two boxes in one week. Please note, a makeup box will not be exactly the same as what you missed, as the season’s availability is constantly changing.

#4:  EOs – You can ask us to hold your box at our farm, at 4144 County Road J in Cross Plains for you to pick up later in the week/weekend by temporarily changing your pickup site to the farm OR you can arrange to receive a makeup box at your pickup site on an off week.  Eg. If you are in Group A we’ll send your makeup box to your normal site on a Group B week. Please note, a makeup box will not be exactly the same as what you missed, as the season’s availability is constantly changing.

VIII. Recipes

Every week we will provide you with about 8 recipes that are specifically chosen to help you use the contents of your box.

In addition to these weekly recipes, Crossroads has HUNDREDS of archived recipes on its website with a recipe search function that makes it easy to search recipes using one or multiple vegetables. Please make use of it to help use the items in your box!
