I. CSA Membership and Risk

This season, you will take a journey with our family as we work to produce healthy, delicious food from the soil. Being a CSA member means that you share in all the risk that is inherent in farming. Inevitably, it will be a banner year for certain crops and a terrible year for others. The delicate dance between all the unknowns, all the uncontrollables, and the vegetables themselves will be reflected in your box throughout the season. Through diversity and good planning, it is our aim that your box will be full of beautiful vegetables each week, despite what nature may throw our way.

II. Member Responsibilities

As the farmers, it is our responsibility to grow, pack, and deliver food to you with open communication. Members have responsibilities too. To make sure everyone gets their share each week, we ask that you follow the simple, yet critical directions we offer.

All CSA Members are Expected to:
1. Read the member handbook in its entirety.

2. Know where and when to pick-up your CSA share.
Make sure anyone picking up your box on your behalf knows what to do as well. The farm will not issue credit or refunds for unclaimed or forgotten boxes.

3. Take home your produce in your own bag or box.
CSA boxes must stay on site.

4. Read all email communications from the farm.

5. Please understand that we can’t control the weather.
The quantity and quality of the produce you receive may be more or less than expected.

III. Regular vs. Everyother Delivery Shares

All regular members (REGs) pick-up a box each delivery.

Everyother members (EOs) pick-up everyother delivery. We split EOs into 2 groups; Group A and Group B.
EO-Group A  pick up starting the 1st delivery (June 11) and include all EO members at the following sites:

  • Epic
  • Fitchburg
  • Stratford Ct.
  • Oakcrest Ave.
  • Verona

EO-Group B members pick up starting the 2nd delivery (June 18)  and include all EO members at the following sites:

  •  Cuna Mutual
  •  County J
  •  Keating
  •  Pioneer Rd.

The other important difference between REG & EOs is that there can be slight differences between the two share types from week to week to ensure even distribution of vegetables.

REG boxes have BLACK lids.

EO boxes have WHITE lids.

V. Pick-Up Instructions

1. Check-Sheets: Each week, please check-off your name on the check sheet to signify that you’ve received your box. This is extremely important in helping us help you! If you are splitting a share, please remember that you may be listed under the other household’s name.

2. Take Correct Share Type: We pack our produce into reusable plastic boxes with lids. At the site, simply take a box from the appropriate stack, either a regular or everyother box. Regular shares have black lids. Everyother shares have white lids.

3. Unpack Your Share into Your Own Bag: The plastic boxes that the produce will be in CANNOT leave the drop site. These boxes are expensive and we have a limited number. Please bring your own bag or box to take your food home in.

4. Swap Box: If you receive an item you won’t eat, you can leave it in the swap box. Feel free to take items from the swap box you know you can use.

5. Unclaimed Boxes: Boxes unclaimed by specified pick-up times will be donated. No credits or refunds will be issued for forgotten boxes.

VI. Options If I Can’t Pick Up My Box

If you can’t pick up your share (or get someone else to pick it up on your behalf), there are additional options available to you. Please let us know if you won’t be able to get your share so that we can make sure your food is not wasted. Please note, the farm does not issue credits or refunds for boxes you are unable to pick-up. All special arrangements need to be set up PRIOR to the pick-up day, by Tuesday at 5 p.m. We are unable to accommodate requests on the day of pick-up.

Options:

1. You can ask the farm not to make a box for you.
2. You can ask the farm to donate your box, either to a hard-working farm volunteer or to a local food pantry.
3. You can ask us to hold your box at our farm, at 4144 County Road J in Cross Plains. Instead of going out on delivery, your box will stay at the farm for you to come get at a later time. Please note, your box will still be packed on Wednesday morning with all the other shares. We can hold your box through the weekend. If you elect to do this, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the County J Pick Up Site. We are a working farm, so we won’t necessarily be able to help you when you arrive.

VII. Recipe Service

Crossroads has hundreds of archived recipes on its website with a recipe search function. Please make use of it to help you figure out how to use the items in your box!

We have also continued our partnership with Local Thyme this season, though in a slightly new format – due to membership feedback last season. Instead of menu planning, we will now use their recipe service. Each week we will tell Local Thyme what’s in your box, and they will create 2-4 recipes that will use an average of 8 items in your box.  To access these recipes, you will need to set up an account with Local Thyme.  Follow the instructions below:

- Go to www.localthyme.net/register from a computer
- Enter the farm code CCLTFREE under “I belong to a CSA.”  Click the sign-up button.
- Choose our farm and click the sign up button.

- If you registered for Local Thyme last year, SCROLL DOWN on the next page and click on “Already have a user account?” Enter your user name and password on the next page.  Feel free to use the ‘Lost your password” option if you need it, and use your email address from last year.

- If you are new to Local Thyme … Fill in the form with your user name, email address and password, click “I Agree” to the terms (this can be easy to miss on small screens like cell phones and tablets), then click “register my account.” Click ‘Subscribe’ on the next page, then follow the instructions in your confirmation email.
